To honor the memory and extend the legacy of long-time ARL staff member Julia Blixrud, ARL has created the Julia C. Blixrud Memorial Fund, which will support a scholarship for a master of library and information science (MLIS) student or recent graduate to attend the ARL Fall Forum. The forum is a one-day conference on a topic of interest to the research library community, held immediately after the ARL Membership Meeting in Washington, DC, each October. The Fall Forum embodies Julia’s passion for ideas, breadth of expertise, and collegiality, and this scholarship reflects her commitment to the development of the profession.

ARL invites contributions to the Julia C. Blixrud Memorial Fund, with the goal of raising a $50,000 endowment for the scholarship. Donations of any amount—from organizations as well as individuals—are welcome and tax deductible.

Please send checks payable in US dollars and drawn on US banks to:

Julia C. Blixrud Memorial Fund
c/o Association of Research Libraries
21 Dupont Circle NW #800
Washington DC 20036

Non-US contributors may call Amy Eshgh at 1-202-296-2296 or e-mail JCBfund@arl.org to arrange donating by credit card. Please do not send credit card details via e-mail, as that is not a secure method of transmitting information.

The Julia C. Blixrud Scholarship will be presented annually starting in 2015 to a current MLIS student or a graduate who is within two years of graduation. The award recipient will receive a scholarship of up to $1,000 plus registration to attend the Fall Forum and will be asked to tweet during the conference and write a blog post about her/his participation in the event. ARL will issue a call for scholarship applications in July of each year; a committee of ARL staff members and ex officio members will select the recipient by early September.

In addition to the scholarship, ARL is founding an annual keynote lecture at the Fall Forum in memory of Julia, to be supported by the forum registration fees. The Julia C. Blixrud Memorial Lecture will be presented at the ARL Fall Forum beginning in 2015 by an individual who is innovative and active in areas of interest to the ARL community. The lecture awardee will receive an honorarium and travel expenses for attending the event.

ARL welcomes your contributions to the Julia C. Blixrud Memorial Fund in support of the scholarship.
