ARL Leadership Fellows Selected for 2023

ARL Leadership Fellows 2021–2022 cohort in
Calgary, Alberta, Canada, September 2022

The Association of Research Libraries (ARL) Leadership Fellows Program (LFP) Task Force has chosen 20 fellows for the 2023 cohort, based on recommendations from the LFP Selection Working Group. The Leadership Fellows Program (LFP) is a 13-month hybrid experience that provides the next generation of senior and executive leaders with exceptional opportunities for growth in research libraries and archives. Through a multifaceted curriculum, peer and individual mentoring, self-assessment, executive coaching, and site visits, the LFP builds upon each participant’s foundations and enhances skills to develop innovative and successful leaders of complex organizations. Participants also form a lifelong community of supportive colleagues that extends far beyond the program.

“Reading the many achievements and diverse backgrounds of our applicants has been inspiring.” said Laurie Alexander, LFP Selection Working Group member, associate university librarian for learning and teaching at the University of Michigan Library, and 2018 Leadership Fellow. “As this ARL Leadership Cohort readies to embrace this learning experience, I am excited for their journey. This experience is more than personal development; it is a powerful platform for fostering collaborative learning, and exchanging insights. In growing as value-driven, innovative, and caring library leaders, they will move the larger ARL community forward, together.”

“I was very impressed with the strength of this year’s applications for the Leadership Fellows Program,” said Erin Ellis, LFP Selection Working Group member; associate dean for organizational strategy, diversity, and inclusion at Indiana University Bloomington; and 2016 Leadership Fellow. “There was a tremendous amount of talent, experience, and expertise demonstrated in the pool, which made the selection committee’s job particularly tough. The selected cohort exhibits a great commitment to developing as leaders and a strong awareness of the challenges and complexities across research institutions and environments. It was extremely gratifying and inspiring to review all of the applications. I look forward to seeing this year’s cohort develop and learning about their accomplishments in the years to come.”
