ARL Kaleidoscope Program Scholars Selected for 2023–2025

2021–2023 Kaleidoscope Program Scholars
at Arizona State University

Members of the ARL Kaleidoscope Program Selection Working Group have chosen 16 master of library and information science (MLIS) students to participate in the 2023–2025 Kaleidoscope Program.

The Kaleidoscope Program is a two-year commitment that aims to prepare BIPOC graduate students for purposeful and consequential careers in research libraries and archives through enriched leadership development and community-building opportunities. Scholars will receive  tuition support of up to US$10,000 over two years to defray the cost of MLIS education; attend virtual educational sessions, the ARL Annual Leadership Symposium, and an ARL member library site visit; receive financial support of up to US$2,000 for professional development; and  participate in a formal mentorship program.

“As is true with every class of Kaleidoscope Program Scholars, this year’s class is exceptional!” said Harvey Long, student success librarian, assistant professor, North Carolina A&T State University, and ARL Kaleidoscope Program Selection Working Group member. “As I read through their application materials, it became apparent that this group of scholars will propel the research library and archives community forward.”

“I found serving as a reviewer for the Kaleidoscope Program to be a very rewarding experience,” said Anu Vedantham, assistant university librarian for teaching, research, and social sciences and liaison for Indigenous studies, Princeton University Library, and ARL Kaleidoscope Program Selection Working Group member. “The applicants shared evocative stories of why they became interested in librarianship, how they have navigated financial obstacles, and what they would contribute to the libraries of the future. I hope ARL can increase the funds available for this program since clearly the need for support is great.”
