Research libraries play a crucial role in supporting the research environment and in complying with federal mandates. However, in the United States, academic libraries’ funding through facilities and administrative (F&A) cost reimbursements is often disproportionately skewed towards instruction. Advocacy for more equitable funding is essential, as research from ARL and COGR indicates that libraries bear significant administrative responsibility for meeting new and expected public-access policies. ARL advocates for increased research library funding and support to enhance their capacity to contribute to the research enterprise, which includes managing and sharing research data effectively.
