The University of Louisville seeks an energetic, service-oriented librarian who is skilled and interested in technical services in an academic library. Reporting to the Head, Technical Services and Collection Development (Print) in Ekstrom Library, the position is responsible for cataloging materials in all formats for the Ekstrom, Art, and Archives and Special Collections Libraries according to national and local standards. The position manages the University of Louisville’s collection of digital objects in the Internet Archive. Primary Responsibilities • Perform original and copy cataloging for library materials in all formats, including books, CDs, films, serials, e-books, or other documents. • Apply cataloging standards including Resource Description and Access (RDA), Anglo-American Cataloging Rules, Library of Congress subject heading policies, Library of Congress Classification and OCLC MARC. • Utilize and assist with updating and maintaining technical services cataloging procedures. • Manage the University of Louisville’s digital collection in the Internet Archive including the selection, scanning, input, and cataloging of materials. • Transfer materials to UofL Libraries’ storage facilities. • Work within a team environment in support of departmental projects and the University Libraries’ strategic plan. Required Qualifications • Master’s degree in library/information science from an ALA-accredited institution. • Copy cataloging experience beyond classwork. • Familiarity with standard tools such as RDA and/or AACR2. • Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills. Preferred Qualifications • Familiarity with LCSH and LC Classification. • Experience using an integrated library system, preferably OCLC Worldshare Management System. • Experience with Internet Archive, including scanning, uploading, and cataloging materials. • Demonstrated ability to work effectively and build strong relationships with colleagues, students, faculty, and researchers. • Potential to meet the University of Louisville Libraries’ promotion requirements. Additional Information: This is a twelve-month, non-tenure track faculty position at the rank of Instructor (Term) or Assistant Professor (Term). The minimum starting salary range is $47,000 per year. Entry rank and salary are negotiated at the time of offer and are dependent on the experience, professional achievement and assigned rank of the successful candidate. The successful candidate will receive a comprehensive benefits package, an annual vacation of 22 working days, and support for professional development.
