ABOUT THE LIBRARY:

The AUC Woodruff Library supports the teaching and learning missions of four institutions of higher learning that comprise the world's largest consortium of HBCUs—Clark Atlanta University, the Interdenominational Theological Center, Morehouse College, and Spelman College. Conveniently located and easily accessible to the campuses, the AUC Woodruff Library is the center of intellectual and social life at the Atlanta University Center. JOB SUMMARY Reporting to the Assistant Director for Digital Services, the Web Services Coordinator is charged with leadership, project management, and hands-on work related to the planning, coordination, design, implementation, maintenance, and evaluation of the Library’s website, digital exhibits platforms, and other major online user interfaces. Through user experience (UX) assessment methodologies and web usage analytics, this position will chart a path of continuous improvement for the Library’s web presence that adjusts to evolving user needs, effectively utilizes new web technologies and practices, and reflects the Library’s core values, including a commitment to inclusive design. As a cross-library position, the Web Services Coordinator is responsible for overall analysis, design, integration, content coordination, and evaluation of the Library’s online user interfaces. Where appropriate, this includes implementation, integration, evaluation, and improvement of user-interface customizations and integrations of proprietary library products affecting: discovery/searching of information resources, interlibrary loan, room reservations, library research guides, and other functional areas. The position works closely with technical as well as public-facing colleagues to integrate both proprietary and open source platforms into the Library’s interfaces. For individual projects requiring web developer support, the Web Services Coordinators will communicate project requirements and design needs with the Library’s Contract Developer, and/or vendors as appropriate, and will check in on a regular basis to adjust and revise requirements, as needed.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS 

  • Supports the library’s existing cloud-based information ecosystem, including WordPress websites and digital exhibits, and Amazon Web Services (20%)
  • Manage any current or future migrations of the Library’s software related to the Library’s website, the GLAM portal and digital exhibit platforms (10%)
  • Champions the experiences of a diverse user community in research, design, prototyping, and implementation of Libraries’ web technologies (20%)
  • Identifies, proposes, and designs new features, and tools to enhance the Libraries' web presence (15%)
  • Manages web analytics and user experience assessment methods to regularly measure the effectiveness of the Libraries' web presence and identify opportunities for improvement (10%)
  • Develops documentation, trainings, policies, and procedures that empower library staff to contribute successfully to the Libraries' web presence (10%)
  • Maintains data feeds between systems, including OAI-PMH and Digital Collections Gateway (5%)
  • Maintains advanced knowledge of web technologies, standards, and best practices (5%)
  • Performs reference duties at public services desk and through online chat reference services (5%)
QUALIFICATIONS Educational/Training Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Master's degree in Library or Information Science from an ALA-accredited institution of higher education or a non-US equivalent by the start of employment, preferred

Experience:

  • Two years of professional experience designing, developing, and maintaining websites or other web-based applications.
  • Experience working in an academic library, preferred

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Knowledge of current web technologies and best practices
  • Knowledge of best practices for usability testing, web analytics, and other UX assessment methodologies
  • Knowledge of current web accessibility standards
  • Knowledge of information architecture design, taxonomy/ontology creation, and writing content for the web
  • Knowledge of current trends and technologies in search and discovery
  • Ability to manage CMS-driven websites
  • Ability to work with vendors to ensure high-quality outsourced work
  • Ability to write and design web content using, at a minimum, HTML and CSS
  • Ability to manage complex technical projects
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
