SPEC Survey Webcast on Libraries, Presses, and Publishing

The Association of Research Libraries (ARL) is offering a series of webcasts that present the findings from the latest SPEC surveys and allow webcast participants to discuss trends with the survey authors. A 45-minute webcast will follow the publication of each SPEC Kit in 2017.

SPEC Kit 357, Libraries, Presses, and Publishing, explores the variety of activities that are associated with library publishing, the level of library/publishing/press integration and collaboration with or creation of formal publishing/press operations, and the organizational structuring of these activities and programs. This study gathered information on the breadth of practice taking place at the intersection of research libraries, presses, and publishing, and on the blurring of boundaries as libraries engage in publishing and press activities in new ways.

 The webcast will review survey findings reported by ARL member libraries in July 2017. The authors will:

• provide a snapshot of publishing activities undertaken by ARL member libraries,
• show examples of exemplary services and resources, and
• review recommendations and advice from respondents.

The webcast will also include a discussion of promising trends and conclude with a question and answer session. Read the freely available SPEC Kit 357 in advance and have your questions ready.
