The meeting will focus on research libraries and archives as active participants in shaping the local and global research and learning community.
Over two days, ARL member representatives and invited guests will engage with leaders, scholars, and library and archive innovators to learn about and discuss national and broader societal transformations and related opportunities and challenges for their institutions and their collective work as an Association.

Marcia McNutt, President of the US National Academy of Sciences
Marcia McNutt, president of the US National Academies of Sciences, will kick off the meeting as the opening keynote speaker. McNutt will speak about the greatest challenges we face, and what academic institutions can do, should do, and perhaps are already doing to help meet those challenges by shaping policy, informing the public, and advancing the pursuit of cross-disciplinary knowledge.
Crosby Kemper, Director of the US Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS), and Peter Baldwin, Co-founder of the Arcadia Fund and Professor, New York University (NYU) and UCLA
Peter Baldwin, co-founder of Arcadia and professor of history, and Crosby Kemper, director of IMLS, will close the meeting by sharing and engaging with attendees on a funder’s view of the leadership role research libraries and archives are, and are not, taking in advancing societal changes their organizations have prioritized—particularly regarding open access and the IMLS 2022–2026 strategic plan.
