UC Santa Barbara (UCSB) has appointed Kristin Antelman as university librarian, effective April 1, 2018. Antelman is currently university librarian at the California Institute of Technology (Caltech). Prior to going to Caltech, she was associate director of libraries at NC State University (2002–2014) and an ARL Leadership Fellow (2007–2008).

At UCSB, Antelman will succeed Denise Stephens, who stepped down June 2, 2017, after leading the UCSB Library for six years, to accept the position of vice provost and university librarian at Washington University in St. Louis. Alan Grosenheider has been serving as acting university librarian since July 1, 2017.

For more details about this transition and about Antelman, see the February 6, 2018, letter to the community from UCSB chancellor Henry T. Yang.
