Leadership and Career Development Program Call for Applications—Deadline May 28

The Association of Research Libraries (ARL) is accepting applications for the 2024 cohort of the Leadership and Career Development Program (LCDP).

The LCDP is a 13-month fellowship that aims to:

  • Create a community of IBPOC leaders in research libraries and archives
  • Build upon the existing knowledge and skills of the fellows
  • Encourage critical exploration of fellows’ individual awareness and attitudes
  • Facilitate fellows’ development and advancement of their leadership goals

Program Components

The LCDP engages fellows in six major experiences over a 13-month period (October 2024–October 2025):

  • Learning Summit: Fellows will attend two in-person learning summits, one at the program commencement and another at the end of the program.
  • Site Visits: Fellows will attend two multi-day, in-person site visits at host institutions.
  • Monthly Virtual Sessions: Fellows will participate in monthly educational sessions.
  • Mentor-Sponsor: Each fellow will develop a mentor-sponsor relationship with an ARL library director or senior staff member.
  • Self-Assessments and Career Coaching: Each fellow will complete self-assessments, coupled with career-coaching sessions.
  • ARL Association Meeting: Fellows will attend two ARL Association Meetings.
  • CNI Membership Meeting (optional): Fellows will be invited to attend a Coalition for Networked Information (CNI) Membership Meeting.

Eligibility

To be eligible to participate in the LCDP, you must fulfill the following requirements:

  • Identify as Indigenous, Black, and/or a Person of Color (IBPOC)
  • Possess a minimum of five years of full-time experience in a library, archive, or other information-profession setting
  • Demonstrate a strong interest in pursuing leadership roles within an institutional setting or within the profession

A limited amount of scholarship funds are available for this cohort. All applicants are required to submit the online application form, which includes four brief writing prompts and confirmation of institutional support by your institution’s executive leader. The application deadline is 11:59 p.m. Hawaiʻi–Aleutian standard time (UTC–10:00) on Tuesday, May 28. For more details on the application process, see the ARL website.

Informational Session

ARL will host an informational session on Wednesday, May 1, 4:00–5:00 p.m. eastern daylight time, to share more about the LCDP and answer questions. A recording of the session will be posted.
