On March 22, 2023, ARL joined the Institute for College Access & Success and higher education associations in calling on House and Senate appropriators in Congress to raise the maximum Pell award from the current amount of $6,435 to $13,000. Pell Grants allow more than seven million low- and middle-income students—including nearly 60 percent of Black undergraduates and almost half of Latino undergraduates—to attend and complete college each year.
