Case Western Reserve University has named Yolanda Cooper as the next vice provost and Lindseth Family University Librarian, effective January 1, 2022.

Cooper is currently dean and university librarian at Emory University. At Emory, Cooper worked with staff to develop a new strategic roadmap for the library, which included priorities such as organizational development; infrastructure and services; collaboration and community engagement; and user experience and operational excellence. In addition, under her leadership, Emory collaborated with Georgia Institute of Technology to create a state-of-the-art, 55,000-square-foot Library Service Center to house a shared collection of books and other materials.

Prior to going to Emory in 2014, Cooper served as deputy university librarian at the University of Miami (2006–2013) and associate university librarian for organizational development at the University of Virginia (2003–2006). She also served as assistant dean for libraries human resources at Indiana University Bloomington (1999–2003), where she earned her undergraduate and master’s degrees.

Cooper has been active in the Association of Research Libraries (ARL), serving on the ARL Research and Analytics Committee (2020–2021); Member Engagement and Outreach Committee (2017–2019); Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee (2015–2017); Scholarly Dissemination Engine Design Team (2015–2016); and Nominating Committee (2015).

At Case Western Reserve, Cooper will succeed Arnold Hirshon, who will retire at the end of 2021 after more than a decade as vice provost and university librarian.
