2020 ARLIES Featured Films

The voting period was open May 6–12, 2020. Each institution was allowed one vote. The ballot link was sent via email to the ARL member representative with the Association Meeting materials on May 5.

How-To/Instruction Films

Southern Illinois University Carbondale Library: A how-to video showing how to get help and stay up to date with library services as they change in response to the pandemic, and a quick overview of how to find articles and ebooks.

University of Utah Library: A friendly moose learns how to load his UCard at the Marriott Library.

Development/Fundraising Films

University of Maryland Libraries: This video was created to garner support and raise funds to digitize 4,000 pieces of historical film and video of men’s basketball footage spanning from 1953 to 2014.

University of Pittsburgh Libraries: This video describes the rising costs of textbooks, introduces the Textbook Project, and ends with a call to donate during the Pitt Day of Giving crowdfunding event.

Collections-Focused Films

Ohio University Libraries: Ohio University Libraries is using three of the #MoveableMondays series that have been “stitched” together to form a single under-three-minute video. These videos were a collaboration between the dean’s office and the department of archives & special collections, and filmed and produced by videographer Andie Walla.

University of British Columbia Library: UBC Library’s Rare Books & Special Collections (RBSC) has acquired the personal archive of Hanne Wassermann Walker (1893-1985), a significant figure of pre-WWII Viennese culture and social life; her remarkable story has been relatively unknown until now.

University of Miami Libraries: A short video that features the University of Miami Libraries’ presentation of “Etching One Hundred Years of Solitude: Gabriel García Márquez Through the Hands of Pedro Villalba Ospina,” an artist’s book exhibition featuring original etchings, drawings, and prints more than 20 years in the making.

Publicity/Marketing Films

Massachusetts Institute of Technology Libraries: An introduction to the spaces, collections, programs, and faces of the MIT Libraries for incoming students.

Ohio State University Libraries: The Ohio State University Libraries’ film showcases our integral role in student and research success and bringing to life the libraries’ impact across campus and beyond.

University of Alabama Libraries: This video highlights the services, resources, and spaces available at The University of Alabama Libraries.

University of Delaware Library: “Gaining Ground: A 3-Minute Preview” offers First Year Seminar students at UD a preview of the activities connected to the Gaining Ground self-guided exploration of library and museums spaces and resources.

University of Manitoba Libraries: This video is a commemoration and promotion of an exhibit put on by University of Manitoba’s Elizabeth Dafoe Library, Archives & Special Collections celebrating the anniversary of Canada’s Winnipeg General Strike of 1919.

University of Toronto Libraries: Teaser trailer for the 2019 library orientation escape game based on actual 1972 student protests over undergraduate access to the research library.
